I call the process of creating my art "Echo Printing." Plant material is layered between sheets of printmaking paper that has been treated with a mordent. The bundles are steamed in a dye bath for two hours. After the prints dry, I use watercolors and ink to create unique atmospheric images.
I am inspired by experimentation and discovery. The combination of plants, paper, mordent, and dye is always unique. Some results are predictable, such as the color of a dye, or the texture of the paper, however, the interaction of all the variables is not revealed until the end of the run.
I grow many of the plants used in my work in my garden. Redbud leaves and chrysanthemum make some of the most wonder echo prints.
