I work in a realist style, looking to bring to attention to the beautiful design elements that already exist in the “ordinary” subjects I paint. I photograph my subject matter, and then work in the studio. I start with a painted sketch, and gradually buils layers of color, adding details as I go.
Where I tend to be most inspired and drawn to are places and things that are worn, rusted, beaten up with time and overuse. I also find inspiration in places that have stories to tell. Places where people have gathered, for work or for play in the past and the prsent.
Once a customer bought a painting of a scene that had been the location of his being mugged at gunpoint! I love painting memories, but that was a strangest one I ever had.
