Process

Eco-printing, also known as botanical printing, utilizes plant material to create images of leaves, flowers and bark on cellulose and protein fiber, as well as paper. Using a combination of water, heat and pressure, tannins are coaxed out onto the substrate, leaving behind images of the leaves.

Inspiration

A little over ten years ago I had the good fortune of being introduced to this art form by a master dyer. I was immediately smitten and have never looked back. My initial attempts fueled me to pursue more complex and intricate outcomes. Today my art reflects both curiosity and experimentation.

Fun Facts

One reason I enjoy this art form so much is the element of surprise, as predictable results are not guaranteed. I create my bundles during the day and steam them in the evening. The next morning is filled with excited trepidation when the bundles are opened and the finished product is revealed.
