Shadow Work explores the quiet power of silhouettes. I photograph or stage plant shadows, trace them, then paint them in crisp, simplified forms. Each piece uses 2–3 bold colors and clean brushwork to transform fleeting shadows into grounded, graphic compositions.
This series began as a reflection of my own journey learning to embrace the “shadow” parts of myself. I’ve since become fascinated by how plant shadows and their separate leaves and stems, merge into one shape, turning complexity into clarity.
Every shape begins as a real shadow. I photograph them on walks or create them in my studio using my ever-growing houseplant collection. This body of work has quietly justified adding quite a few new plants to my home.
