Madison Moreno

Ceramics

My Process

Madison creates porcelain pieces through the combination of wheel throwing and hand building to emphasize the beauty of the domestic space and incorporate intricate floral patterns and design. Madison's pieces utilize sculptural elements along with hand carvings created in the Mishima technique.

My Inspiration

I draw inspiration from the floral patterns and designs that are a part of my heritage within Japanese culture. By taking images of plant life and repeating the creation of those images by memory, I explore themes of cultural tradition, and the change that can happen from one generation to another.

Fun Facts

Many of the floral designs utilized on the surface of my pots are inspired by Japanese woodblock prints, fabric designs, and William Morris art. The composition of my wall sculptures are based off of Vanitas Dutch paintings.
