I hand-make industrial style lamps using reclaimed auto parts, scientific and laboratory equipment, cameras, rotary telephones, and other antiques. The process typically involves welding and "Frankensteining" things together.
While teaching middle school, I found some old microscopes in a closet that were too old to be useful but too beautiful to throw away. I was teaching a unit on electricity, so decided to have the students wire them into lamps. They sold them right away, and I just kept putting bulbs into things!
What started as a simple hobby has turned into a legitimate business, and forced me to learn about entrepreneurship. As the business grew, I took small business ownership classes at my local community college and learned all that I could about running a successful business!
