I make industrial-style lamps using reclaimed machinery, auto parts, and antiques. I use everything from rotary phones, old cameras, sewing machines, typewriters, microscopes, electrical test equipment, axles, gears, and transmission shafts.
I enjoy providing a sense of nostalgia for my clients. Many people associate the clacking of a typewriter or dialing a childhood friend on a rotary phone with fond memories. By converting these objects into lamps, I can invoke that nostalgia, while also diverting items from the waste stream.
This all started when I was teaching science. I was teaching about electricity, and found some old microscopes. I had the students wire them into lamps and they sold them immediately. From there, MG Custom Lighting was born. I've been converting things into lamps ever since.
