I am an artist blacksmith. I work with mild steel and fire to forge the work I create. The work is done by hand using traditional forging techniques on the anvil. I enjoy traditional methods as that allows me to work in honor of the past and incorporate those ideals into my contemporary work.
Blacksmithing is unique & mystical because steel won't move unless there is energy behind it. Put the energy of heat into it, the medium then allows me to take something inanimate & bring it to life. It's a dance between opposing forces. The end result should display that beautiful balance.
Steel in its raw form is inanimate. Bringing movement, color, life into steel is something I chase. Whether it's the final concept, techniques used or materials, I strive to have my work create a connection with its owner. Sometimes its owner feedback (their two cents) that makes that connection.
